Frequently Asked Botox Questions & Answers

  1. “What Are The Side Effects?”
Temporary bruising is the most common side effect of BOTOX. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can occur, but this is rare. A very, very small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping. This usually resolves in a few weeks.
  2. “How Long Does It Take BOTOX to Begin Working?”
It takes approximately 4-7 days for the BOTOX medicine to reach full effect, causing your muscles to relax. The creases should then begin to smooth out in 1 to 2 weeks. For people with very deep creases it may take longer for the skin to “iron” out.
  3. “Will I Still be Able to Make Facial Expressions?”
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
  4. “How Many BOTOX Treatments Will I Need?”
Only one treatment is typically needed. We do a follow up exam with new patients two weeks after their initial BOTOX treatment. If any touch ups are required, they will be done at that time.
  5. “What Does a BOTOX Injection Feel Like?”
BOTOX injections feel like a slight pinprick. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of any pain, ask for an ice pack to be applied to the area.
