You Can’t Spell “Age” without AGE

Your skin has enemies all over the place. It’s not just smoke and sunlight that can bring on another trip to our Tacoma botox clinic; you can also be prematurely aging your face with the foods you eat. Some foods contain sugars that attach to proteins in your skin to produce Advanced Glycation Endproducts, or AGE’s, which are just as unfortunate as the acronym suggests. These AGE’s rob your skin of its flexibility, bringing on a dullness and brittleness that can add years to your face.

The biggest culprit in the production of AGE’s is high-fructose corn syrup. This common sweetener is also a big cause of obesity and diabetes, and should be consumed in moderation. Additionally, AGE’s can also crop up in food that is quickly heated, like in a microwave or a deep fryer.

The good news is that there are easy ways to combat the effects of AGE’s. These substances are broken down by antioxidants and vitamin C, both of which are abundantly available in many fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep an eye out for foods with high levels of these nutrients and lower levels of sugar, and you’ll be eating your way to a more beautiful face in no time!
