Post-Botox Facial Care
Any good surgeon provides post-treatment instructions to patients to take home and better manage treatment effects and recovery. Botox injections, though a non-surgical approach, also requires similar attention to aftercare to ensure its success. Looking at some of the most important take-home instructions tells you how incredibly critical they can be to success.
Pain is not often reported by patients who have undergone botox injections. Some will experience it, however, usually at the injection sites and a mild analgesic may be prescribed, like paracetamol. One must also avoid alcohol, aspirin and other strong drugs. There may be bruising and swelling as a consequence of the muscles receiving trauma but should disappear in a few days. Otherwise, ask your doctor if a lightweight cold compress can be applied to hasten the healing. He can also ask you to administer some light facial exercises at specific sites or practise facial expressions to help botox penetrate the target muscles.
However, you must avoid strenuous exercises in the next 24 to 48 hours after you are discharged, must not lie down or bend down for at least 4 to 5 hours after treatment, and must not rub the face or any site of injection for at least 24 hours. Any of these activities may cause undue movement of the botox to unwanted areas. Needless to say, you must not be sleeping on your face either.
Also, try to keep away from heat exposure, like taking a sauna, going under the hair dryer, or taking a hot tub bath, at least not in the next 24 to 48 hours after botox treatment. For at least a week, stay away from treatments like microdermabrasion, laser hair removal and electrolysis. Remember that to be safe, don’t subject your face and body to undue movements, pressure and harsh surroundings for at least a good week. Let your botox treatment do its job.
