Hard Water is Hard on Your Face

Does your skin tend to feel particularly tight after you cleanse? If your cleanser isn’t too harsh, this may point to a problem in the water itself. Our Tacoma Botox clinic recommends installing water filters in your home to help preserve your skin against the effects of hard water.

Hard water contains a large amount of undissolved minerals, like lead, dolomite, and calcium carbonate. These minerals can potentially break down the collagen in your healthy skin cells, rendering them vulnerable to damage from the sun. It also has a greater potential to dry out your skin, bringing on irritation and acne breakouts. Finally, the minerals that settle upon your skin form a thin film, preventing your natural antimicrobial oils from protecting your skin against germs. All in all, hard water is not ideal for washing your skin.
